All students in Key Stage 4 study a wide range of topics within the following three sections:

JESUS
His birth
life
teaching
miracles
suffering
death
resurrection and the background to the Holy Land .

THE CHRISTIAN CHURCH
Organisation
worship
festivals
buildings
calendar
leadership
ordinances and sacraments.

CHRISTIAN MORALITY
Friendships
marriage preparation
parenting
caring
love
respect for life
work
leisure and minority groups

The course emphasises the modern relevance of past events and Christian teaching.

G.C.S.E
Selection for the appropriate tier will be made in the January of the year in which the examination is to be taken, following the Mock G.C.S.E

Two items of coursework will be done. This will be based on two of the three sections of the syllabus and each item should be 750 words long.

E.L.C
This course is designed for students who cannot take the G.C.S.E. course or who have not achieved Level 3 at the end of Key Stage 3.

A variety of assessment techniques will be used including: oral testing, investigative study, creative work, structured questions and examination. 90% of the work is coursework.

‘AS’ and ‘A2’ RELIGIOUS STUDIES
Religious Studies offers students a challenging opportunity to examine relevant Biblical Literature and the controversial development of the Early Christian Church.

The course has two distinct sections. Candidates must do the stand alone AS in L6 before progressing onto the A2 Advanced in U6.

 AS 2 / A2 2 -
Introduction to the ACTS of the Apostles and Selected New Testament writings.

A scholarly examination of ACTS, 1 ST CORONTHIANS and GALATIONS will be undertaken. Topics, which will be covered, include the growth and witness of the Church, leaders, issues and problems and the key elements of Apostolic teaching.

AS 4 / A2 4 -
The CHRISTIAN CHURCH in the ROMAN EMPIRE to AD 325

In this period the Church had to clarify its identity and work out its relationship to the secular authorities. A wide range of topics will be studied, including the development of the New Testament canon, creeds, baptism, heresy, persecution, Constantine and key Christian leaders of the period.
