Courses Offered

To fulfil our aims and objectives the department will implement the Northern Ireland Programme of Study at Key Stage 3. At Key Stage 4 and at ‘AS’ and ‘A2’ levels the department will follow the CCEA specifications.

Key Stage 3

The schemes, based on the Northern Ireland Programme of Study, cover the following topics:-

Year 8 Year 9 Year 10

- Map Skills 1 Map Skills 2 Map Skills 3
- Passport to the World Weather Environments
- Rocks Rock! Rich World/Poor World Local Landscapes
- People Everywhere Resources – For ever and Ever? Volcano!
- Flood! Geography and Crime Fashion and Football

Key Stage 4

- At GCSE level we follow the CCEA syllabus. This covers 6 themes, listed below.

A – Atmosphere and Human Impact
B - Physical Processes and Challenges
C – Ecosystems and Sustainability
D – Population and Resources
E – Economic Change and Development
F – Settlements and Change

In addition students complete one piece of fieldwork-based coursework.

Less able students at Key Stage 4 follow a course leading to the CCEA Entry Level Certificate.

Sixth Form Studies

At ‘AS’ and ‘A2’ level the students follow the CCEA specifications.

At ‘AS’ level 3 modules are studied:-

Module 1 – Themes in Physical Geography
Module 2 – Themes in Human Geography
Module 3 – Techniques in Geography

At ‘A2’ level 3 further modules are completed:-

Module 4 – Physical Processes and Human Interactions
Module 5 – Processes and Issues in Human Geography
Module 6 – Skills and Decision Making in Geography
